Tyler, an accountant at United Health Group, is a mentor in Simpson’s middle school mentoring program. He is matched with 11-year-old Jerome, a bright and insightful 5th grader who loves his family, school, and playing sports.
Tyler discovered Simpson’s Children and Youth Services Program when he was searching for a volunteer opportunity that blended his passions for ending homelessness and helping youth.
In partnership with Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless (MCH) and Homes for All-MN, the Simpson community has been actively engaged in advocacy efforts, urging MN legislators to approve funding and resources to support emergency shelters and rental assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the rapidly changing situation and continued spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota, Simpson Housing Services has implemented plans and safety measures to sustain our mission and ensure the safety of the people we serve and our staff members that work alongside them.
The shelter is vital to our community, and we are committed to maintaining shelter operations. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Simpson began operating the emergency shelter 24 hours per day on March 17.

As we have previously shared with you, Simpson became the owner of the Simpson United Methodist Church property last spring, home of our current shelter. Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new shelter project at the site.
Simpson’s board of directors and staff are committed to designing and executing a national best practice shelter model.

Fifty-eight-year-old William is a United States veteran. He served in the Navy from 1982 to 1986, stationed in California and Virginia and aboard an aircraft carrier on which he completed an around-the-world tour.
Humble and hard-working, this Minnesota native has also experienced homelessness. William’s hardship began six years ago.
Simpson Housing Services is honored to announce John Green as our new board president.
John joined the board in 2015 and has been actively engaged in leading our mission to house, support, and advocate for people experiencing homelessness. During this time, he has served in various positions as a member of the Nominating Committee and Finance Committee in addition to providing leadership as Vice President of the board from 2018 to 2019.
For the past seven years, Danny and his wife Oksana have opened the doors of their restaurant, Our Kitchen, generously sharing their hospitality and home-cooked meals with guests of Simpson’s shelter on Christmas morning.
Danny Ziegler is the owner and operator of Our Kitchen, a Minneapolis neighborhood restaurant that has offered a welcoming atmosphere and delicious fare to guests since 1941.
