That was in the midst of a pandemic like nothing we’ve seen in our lifetimes. Life has gotten harder in a lot of ways… especially for people without sufficient housing… The question was whether we could change in order to address it.”

We’ve had an incredible November thanks to you! We’re honored and grateful. But there’s still more work to be done.

You can help us finish the year strong by doubling your gift. Now through January 15, new or increased gifts will be matched by the Frey Foundation up to $70,000. In addition, all gifts will be matched up to $20,000 by an anonymous donor.

Talented Scout builds new candleholders for Memorial

Memorial candles are never re-used. Carla Gainey, Simpson Executive Director from 1987-1997, was adamant that new candles be purchased every year. One for every life. To this day, we follow her example.  

The previous set of candleholders didn’t have enough room to fit a candle for everyone, but as luck would have it, Matthew — an Edina Scout — chose to do something for Simpson for his Eagle project. Learn more here.

Meet Aalessa: A mother shares wisdom and healing

Aalessa was 10 years old when she learned to make her first dreamcatcher. She’d been at summer camp in 1997, finding special tree branches and coaxing them into hoops, turning them into beautiful nets said to protect the dreams of sleeping children in Ojibwe legend.
