Residents in Simpson’s two single adult housing communities enjoyed a festive evening of activities at a National Night Out block party in early August. More than 60 Simpson residents and nearby neighbors joined in this community–building event at one of Simpson’s housing sites.

A twenty-eight-year-old Native American woman — White Earth Ojibwe on her mom’s side and Lac du Flambeau Chippewa on her dad’s side — she has experienced generational homelessness. Most recently she experienced homelessness for more than two years,

At the 34th Annual Minnesota Homeless Memorial March and Service, the community gathered to remember 100 homeless friends, 89 formerly homeless folks, and 16 advocates who passed away in 2018. The service include the inaugural reading of “We Carry Their Names” by committee member, Carina Aleckson.
We slept at a bus stop that night.
I remember the culmination of events that led to the lowest point of my life. I had my five young children with me, and we had nowhere to go. We were on the street after two years of staying with my family and living in and out of motel rooms with my youngest son’s dad.
