Join us for the 9th Annual Art 4 Shelter!

Spring is finally in the air, and Art 4 Shelter is just around the corner! This spectacular event would not be possible without you, the talented artists who contribute every year. THANK YOU!

Since Art 4 Shelter started eight years ago, we have raised $610,000 which is equal to over 17,000 nights of shelter for men and women experiencing homelessness.

View Our 2017/2018 Annual Report

We are pleased to share with your our 2017/2018 annual report.   With the support of the community, donors and volunteers, we:

  • Provided 682 men and 429 women with shelter beds.
  • Moved 1,454 people into safe, stable housing.
  • Supported 289 families, including 649 children, in our family housing program.

Mamas’ Day of Healing

The inaugural Mamas’ Day of Healing, an all-day retreat for parents in Simpson’s family supportive housing program took place on February 28, 2019. Fourteen moms, one father, and twenty children ages three months to eight years, gathered at the Wilder Foundation for relaxation, education, and fun. It was a day for parents to focus on themselves.

The Navigation Center: Collaboration. Safe Housing. New Beginnings.

The Navigation Center, a Native-led, collaborative community response, opened in December 2018. Designed as a low-barrier and service-rich temporary shelter for adults, the Navigation Center provides a safe and dignified transitional housing option for more than 120 community members who previously lived outdoors at the encampment, respectfully known as the Wall of Forgotten Natives. Early in the planning process, Simpson Housing Services was selected by the collaborative planning team to provide shelter operational support for the Navigation Center.

Homeless Memorial Service Reading: “We Carry Their Names”

At the 34th Annual Minnesota Homeless Memorial March and Service, the community gathered to remember 100 homeless friends, 89 formerly homeless folks, and 16 advocates who passed away in 2018. The service include the inaugural reading of “We Carry Their Names” by committee member, Carina Aleckson.

Mail Carrier/Musician Delivers Goodwill to Simpson

Tanner Peck has worked for the U.S. Postal Service for the last four years. In his utility role, he delivers mail on five different routes in Minneapolis. “I’m a regular, but my five routes vary. I deliver on a route by 1st Avenue near Simpson shelter and by a lower income area near I-35.

Talisha finds “Blessings that wouldn’t stop” through Simpson

Talisha is a goal-oriented working mother, devoted to the needs of her four children. A year ago she and her family faced homelessness. Without a support system to fall back on, Talisha and her kids lived in a large Minneapolis shelter for nine months. Talisha found daily life in the shelter challenging.
