2014 Report to the Community Letter

Posted on July 16th, 2015

It is with great pleasure we share with you Simpson Housing Services’ 2014 Report to the Community.  We welcome you to view our recent financials and program outcomes.

Each day at Simpson is an opportunity to fulfill our mission to house, support, and advocate for people experiencing homelessness.  In 2014, we adopted a five-year strategic plan to broaden and deepen our services. Our goal is to end homelessness one household at a time and mitigate deeper issues that affect stability for those we serve. We identified two areas of focus; educational support for children and youth and increased support for those with chemical and mental health challenges. We are pleased to share our progress in the following areas:

Education support

We expanded services such as tutoring, home-visits, and enrichment opportunities to help children ages 0-15 in our family housing programs, build strong academic, social, and literacy skills. This winter, we launched the new Mentoring and Youth Development Program to pair young people with caring adult mentors. Supporting children and youth is a critical step toward ending generational homelessness and poverty in our community and Simpson is committed to ongoing investment in this area.

Chemical and mental health

The experience of homelessness is especially challenging for people who struggle with chemical and mental health concerns. Simpson is building strong partnerships with organizations and service providers in the Twin Cities. Together, with the support of community experts, we will create a more accessible safety net of services for those we serve.

We are grateful for your commitment to Simpson Housing Services. Your continued support helped move 1,000 people into housing last year alone, and sustains our efforts to build close, trusting relationships with each individual we serve. We are inspired by the Simpson community each day –program participants, staff, shelter guests, community partners, volunteers, and donors.  Thank you for your support! We look forward to your continued partnership in the effort to end homelessness in our community.

Sincerely,
