Maren Thorstenson

Senior Case Manager
Pronouns: she/her/hers mthorstenson@old.simpsonhousing.org 612.405.8221

As a Senior Case Manager with Simpson’s Women’s Housing Partnership (WHP) program, Maren describes herself as a case manager who works with women experiencing homelessness by finding them housing and making sure that they keep their housing. She meets with the women on her caseload on a weekly basis; talks with landlords and property managers; and takes women to housing and medical appointments, trips to the grocery store or food shelf, and more.

Maren finds moving day—when a woman moves out of a shelter or unsuitable living condition into her very own place, with keys and a lease—to be the most rewarding part of her work. “For some of them, it’s been months of work, so it’s so nice to get someone all set up in an apartment and be able to tell them to lock the door behind me when I leave,” she says.

Maren has a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has done all kinds of work in the human services field as: an Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services worker; a group home staff member with individuals who could not live on their own due to mental illness; and a mental health practitioner with seniors in independent living buildings.

Maren has been with SHS since 2017.
