Momma’s Love by Kat Corrigan

Award-winning Minneapolis-based artist Kat Corrigan’s formal art training began at a young age through the direction of her mother, an art teacher and exhibiting artist. Earning a degree in art (and English) as well as several more in education, Kat also participated in many art-centered workshops around the twin cities and in Door County, WI and Grand Marais, MN.

Allowing her art to progress naturally in terms of subject and media is a part of Kat’s balancing act in life. She challenges herself annually with several “30 in 30” Daily Painting Projects, in which she sends out a call for photos of people’s dogs or cats or homes, selects her 30 favorites, and paints one a day for thirty days. These projects allow Kat to focus on her technique and style without worrying about subject, and also further develops her skill in making quick decisions in composition and color use.

Kat’s work has won awards and recognition in juried shows throughout the United States and has been widely collected both in the US and in England, Australia, Japan, Wales, and Lebanon. Her work can be found at Artistry in Bloomington, at Articulture in Minneapolis, at Yellow Bird Gallery in Grand Marais, and at The Edina Art Center in Edina.

Once inside gatherings are allowed again, Kat will continue to teach adult painting lessons in her studio in the Ivy Building in South Minneapolis. Teaching beginners and more advanced adults has garnered Kat a loyal following of repeat attenders. This fall and early winter her most recent class met outside, masked, in her back yard. She is sought out as a teacher because of her consistent work and her positive teaching ethics.
