Birdbath by Lynne Sarnoff-Christensen

Lynne Sarnoff-Christensen is a contemporary artist whose work has been shown in galleries and juried shows throughout the country. For over 35 years she has been creating art for commercial and residential environments. From custom tiles and mosaics to the simplest form of a bowl, Sarnoff’s constant focus on surface design is apparent in all of her work.

“Getting to know the character of the clay body and what it is capable of doing, is paramount. I choose to hand build more so than throwing on a wheel. I can manipulate and alter the shapes to create wonderful movement. I love the imperfections and textures. It is like a canvas to me.”

Sarnoff’s desire to combine illustration with her pottery, brought her back to basic shapes and forms. She visualizes the workspace as if it were a canvas and illustrates the most unique designs, reflecting her gardens, she so passionately nurtures. “I choose to create my designs with a very loose foundation of bold colors and accent them with an organic yet whimsical flair and reflection of nature. I have stripped my work down to simplicity. The process and direction of each piece is individual yet they connect with each other”.
