Bishop Bruce Ough is the resident bishop of the Dakotas-Minnesota Area of The United Methodist Church where he has served since September 1, 2012, coming from the West Ohio Area where he was assigned as bishop for 12 years. Before his election and consecration as a bishop in July 2000, Bishop Ough was appointed in the Iowa Conference, the North Indiana Conference and in the Dakotas.
His work has included numerous training events, seminars, and retreats in the areas of spiritual formation, leadership development, and new church development. He served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. A graduate of North Dakota State University, Bishop Ough earned a master of divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.
He currently chairs the United Methodist Connectional Table and was recently elected as president-designate of the Council of Bishops, to be followed by a two-year presidency beginning in the spring of 2016. Bruce is married to Charlene Ough, and they are the proud parents of three sons and five grandchildren living in Wisconsin, Indiana and Virginia.
